Lukas Gschwend focuses his research activities on the History of Criminal Law and Crime as well as on the History of Legal Ideas and Legal Science. Further fields of research are the History of Business Law and the History of Minority Rights.
Lukas Gschwend is the president of the Law Sources Foundation of the “Swiss Lawyers Society” as well as board member of the “Association for Studies of Economic History”, of the “Historical Society of the Canton of St. Gallen” and the “Lawyer’s Association of the Canton of St. Gallen”.
Furthermore, Lukas Gschwend supports the "European Journal of Legal History".
Research Projects
Since 2006: Editorial Director of the “Collection of Swiss Law Sources” in the capacity of President of the board of trustees of the Law Sources Foundation of the Swiss Lawyers Society.
2014-2019: Member of the Expert Commission on Administrative Detention (IEC), established by the Swiss Federal Council to research the practice of administrative detention, legal in Switzerland until 1981.
